Avondale Home-Based Childcare
My name is Deb Judd and I live in Avondale, with my husband Struan and our adorable little scamp of a dog called Molly.
I am passionate about literacy and science as children love exploring and working out theories on how the world around them works. We do lots of reading and experimenting!
I provide personalised learning programmes for each child based on their individual needs and interests. We have a rich learning environment providing all sorts of learning opportunities such as blocks, playdough, dolls, dress-ups, cars, trains, painting, drawing and crafts.
I also provide Montessori inspired activities for the children to engage with and explore.
We spend as much time as possible outdoors playing in the garden or in nearby parks. We usually grow vegetables in summer, which we enjoy using in our cooking and baking activities. We also attend group outings such as Mainly Music and story time at the library so that the children experience being around larger groups of children.
We form strong friendships and have lots of fun together.

Our Service Philosophy:
Our service was created with the desire to help young children to grow and develop to their full potential. We believe that highly qualified teachers/educators working with a small group of children, in a safe and homely environment, provides the optimal setting for children to become ‘Tall Poppies’.
Our curriculum is based on Te Whaariki and is responsive to the interests of learners. Our programme of teaching and learning is designed to cater to each child’s unique journey of development and to support them to learn through play. Planning is informed by ongoing formative assessments of children and their current abilities. Positive, respectful and professional relationships with parents and caregivers are vital to developing our child-centered education model.
We value whanaungatanga and work alongside whanau to best support their needs and their child’s needs. The high standard of qualifications held by our teachers/educators is a key component of the service we provide. As teachers/educators we are passionate and highly motivated about education and we strive to share this passion with our learners. Children thrive in an environment in which they are provided with opportunities to engage in a wide variety of learning experiences. We encourage purposeful and deliberate learning experiences that are designed to help children develop key life and social skills that will them serve them in their life long journey as learners.
Tall Poppies Education Ltd promotes strong links to the child’s local community by encouraging learners to take on roles of serving others. Examples include visiting a local rest home or supporting the efforts of animal shelters. We believe children find happiness and fulfillment in the helping and serving others. Within our home learning groups tuakana-teina is evident, through older children being encouraged to work alongside younger children as role models and to participate in the care for others in the home.
At Tall Poppies we are passionate about growth and learning. Our teachers/educators are engaged in a continual programme of professional development so they may lead by example and be Tall Poppies.
